April 2017 Some Food Matters

Castle Course - April 2017

Jubilee Course - April 2017

As our April 2017 trip to the St. Andrews, Scotland area went along, we had some matters come about that don't "fit" into the existing set of Web pages that summarize our annual April-timeframe trip.

This Web page is a holding-place for those "Other Matters".

Some Other Matters' Comments
The following is a "Holding Spot" for selected matters that came up during our annual April (in this case: 2017) trips to the St. Andrews area in Scotland.

Playing Lesson at St. Andrews Links Trust Training Center

The 1-hour "swing" lesson was well worth it to both of us. Next time: If we are going to repeat the visit to the Training Center, we plan on doing it the first few days -- not waiting until the second week.

in my case: The hint about worrying about my "hip turn" rather than wasting my time "extending my swing and trying to do that with some arm/shoulder moves".... Has helped me a lot. It is simpler for me to be concerned with just one thing prior to swing: Turn my hips correctly.... So far, so good - for my driver shots and for my "well-being".

Whisky Distillery at Kingsbarns

Although we did not visit the whisky distillery at Kingsbarns in 2017 - we did visit it in April 2016 and I am placing the following here just to remind me to re-visit it in the next time around.

2016 was the first full-year the distillery was active. Whisky was "brewing" and will be sold in Fall 2018 and beyond.

Having the distillery so close to St. Andrews (Kingsbarns is about 5 mile away) is a welcome afternoon-visitor destination.

Crail Music Night (Crail Folk Club)
If you are fortunate enough to be in the St. Andrews area on one of the Thursday (normally) evenings the Crail Folk Club meets: I can highly recommend attending. If they have a "Singers" Night, they welcome participation -- however, we have not taken them up on their offer: We, simply, enjoy the evening and the member's excellence. If the evening you head there is "Guest" evening (outside group) you are also very fortunate. Their Website has all necessary information. Of course, if you are in a large group while you are on your golfing-tri, I recommend that you check with the Crail Folk Club to make sure there is room for you on a particular evening.

If you are free in the afternoon before the Club meets - Crail "village" is, of course, worthwhile to visit in its own right.

The ten mile drive from St. Andrews is a bit winding -- but, just take your time and enjoy!

The Moon on the Way Back
We stopped, in fact at the Castle Course entrance, to take this photo. The moon was wonderful... The photo does not do the situation justice.
