- After the second 18 holes were completed (late 70's we believe), a contest was held to rename the East and West courses. We chose the dominant feature on each course; Lakes for the big lake and Oaks for the large oak. Frank and Pam Beachman had the same idea and we were given credit for naming the Lakes Course and they were given credit for naming the Oaks Course. Free champagne dinners were awarded to each couple. At that time the menu featured Southern food; ham, grits with red eye gravy, turnip greens. We had turnip greens with our champagne. Times have changed.

- On July 12, 1986 our daughter's wedding reception -- about the time the first handful of (rice) birdseed was thrown -- lightening struck the golf cart building. Exploding batteries and electric fires lit up the night sky. The lightening was not only heard, but felt, and smelled! Luckily the bride and groom were able to leave the parking area before police and firemen arrived. A comment from a wedding guest was heard: "How did you arrange such fireworks?"! A night to remember.
